Spa Supplies
The place to start with maintenance is before you fill it with water. Use a reactive silicone based cleaner and polish on the entire surface of the spa to waterproof and protect from chemicals, sunlight and temperature. Make sure it is compatible with the other chemicals that will be used.
Iron, copper and other metals and minerals can build up on the spa surface and cause stains. So it is a good idea to use an additive that will prevent this build up from occurring. It should be added when filling the spa with water. Using it every time you drain and fill your spa will help keep it looking inviting.
To keep the water at its best, you need to make sure the pH level is at optimum. It is best to check before every use of the spa. This is done with the use of testing strips, so you will need to keep a good supply on hand. Using a pH balancer will help keep the pH levels in the right range. How often this needs to be added will depend on the particular balancer you use.
Next is the addition of a sanitizer. This keeps the water free from harmful bacteria and other impurities so it will be safer and healthier for you to use your spa. There are two chemicals available to use as sanitizers; chlorine and bromine. Either of these chemicals will serve the purpose very well. Some people can't tolerate chlorine, so bromine is a good option for them. With these sanitizers, maintaining the proper concentration is very important.
Too little and bacteria and algae won't be inhibited, too much and they can cause problems for spa users. To test the level of the sanitizer, use test strips before and after adding them. Using the test strips before will tell your whether you need to add the sanitizer and how much. Using the test strips after will help to ensure you have used the proper amount. If you put in too much, you will know not to use the spa until it has been adjusted.
Since there can be a build up of things like residual soap, deodorants, natural oils and other organic materials, it is best to use a shock treatment to get rid of them. Use this after each spa use and these build-ups won't be a problem.
Each step of maintenance and each additive has its own time table. To be sure you are following the best procedure for your spa, follow the instructions on all labels to the letter. This ensures that your spa is at its best for your enjoyment and health.
