Cedar Hot TubRedwood Hot Tubs
Cedar and Redwood hot tubs are available from several manufactures such as Calloway Woodworking, There are 2 basic designs in wood hot tubs the all wood which has exposed wood on the inside and outside of the tub, the other option has an outside made of Cedar or Redwood and has a fiberglass sitting area.
The all wood hot tubs are extremely beautiful and are generally more expensive than there counterparts. The up keep is increased the cleaning is a little harder. If you plan on draining your tub for the winter, when you go to fill the hot tub in the spring a certain amount of leakage will occur until the wood swells to seal the gaps this type of cedar hot tub is not recommended for interior use unless you have adequate drainage.
The dual wood/fiberglass type hot tub has a fiberglass lining that is easy to clean does not splinter or leak. This is by far the most desirable style of hot tub it still shows the beauty of the Redwood or Cedar but does not have any of the drawbacks of a solid wood hot tub.
Several manufactures sell the stave (wood slats) required to build your own cedar hot tub. You can order the slats or make your own if you have the proper tools to mill the staves and make the bottom. You can then add jets and a pump of your choice and a heater either wood, electric or gas.
